Road closure on Tuesday, May 27

As part of ongoing roadway improvements for the Illinois Department of Transportation, Darrell Road will be closed to through traffic starting Tuesday, May 27. This closure is necessary to safely begin the next phase of construction. A clearly marked detour route will be in place to guide drivers around the work zone. We encourage motorists to plan ahead, follow posted signs, and allow extra time for travel.

Project Status 1/15/2025

Building demolition has been completed. Most of the trees and fence have been removed. Utility relocations should start this month and should be completed by April.

The general contractor, Lake County Grading, is scheduled to close the roads and implement a detour for 140 days starting in June. Depending on the weather, this date may be moved up into May.

Phase II of the Darrell Road corridor improvement in in progress.

The full improvement is broken down into 2 construction projects as shown here. The first (now completed) starts about 350′ south of the Case Rd. intersection, and ends about a quarter mile shy of the Dowell Rd. intersection.

The second part begins about 1,130 feet south of Dowell Rd. to about 700 feet north of Fisher Rd.

Dowell Road will be realigned to join Darrell Road with a roundabout eliminating the existing skewed intersection. The Fisher Road intersection with Darrell Road will also be improved by adding a roundabout to replace the existing 1 way stop controlled intersection. Construction will include a bike path between Fisher Road and Case Road/Neville Road and a portion will be a part of the Grand Illinois Trail.
